Aiki Homes of Bellingham won the 2010 Western Washington Custom Home category from Built Green Washington for its work on a Fairhaven home.
While competing among entries from all over Western Washington, Aiki's project was selected in a competitive field among other homes designed for health, safety, energy efficiency and sustainability, according to a company press release.
The Holcomb Home, which is at 1123 17th St. in Fairhaven, will be held open to the public for a free tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 16.
Homes were judged based on energy testing performance results, materials used, low impact to the surrounding environment, construction techniques, craftsmanship, design principles, and minimal construction waste generated. This project was built and certified using a Built Green Checklist. Additionally, this home is pending a LEED Platinum Certification.
The Built Green program is an environmentally-friendly, non-profit, residential building program of the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County, developed in partnership with other agencies in Washington State.
